GrowthX — Amazing Product Growth Bootcamp

I had been searching online a lot to find a course that would help me learn deeper on how to scale and grow products. Have researched on a number of programs be on Udemy, Coursera, Upgrad, The Product School and many more. I didn’t find them relevant for me. They were either too expensive or the content covers very basic stuff or it was for a duration of 1 year or more or it was for people who want to switch their career completely. I was looking more for a holistic course with a shorter duration.

I came across GrowthX on my LinkedIn Homepage via shared post by Abhishek, the co-founder of GrowthX. I visited the site, went through it and got really excited about the program as it covers most of the stuff that I was really wanted to learn and understand.

What really got me excited are -

  1. Curriculum: Topics covering Acquisition — Onboarding — Engagement & Retention — Monetization, all over the period of 5 weeks and along with a capstone project for 3 weeks. All 4 important aspects of growth were covered with teardown analysis/case studies of various companies that cracked growth.
  2. Live Classes on Sundays: Personally, I don’t prefer self-learning. You are excited about the course in the beginning and do a few sessions/topics religiously and slowly the enthusiasm dilutes or you get stuck with other things and your learning takes a backseat. Live sessions are generally worth it as you are more committed to the program, there’s a specific time to attend so there’s a need to be disciplined, and the doubts getting clarified right away in the class. As the classes were on Sunday mornings, it didn’t impact any of my other works.
  3. Instructors: Both Abhishek & Udayan have strong experience leading growth teams at some of the best startups in India and that’s what compelled me to at least schedule a call with them before signing up for the course

I immediately registered and scheduled a call with Abhishek to understand more about the program. The call was really good with Abhishek and also with Manish. It helped me answer some of my queries. I was convinced to take the course. I shared the details of the program with a couple of my colleagues who got excited and joined the program as well.

Experience

The 5-week course was fantastic covering various topics of Acquisition, Onboarding, Engagement and Retention and Monetization. What you learn is not google ads or Facebook marketing but when to use which channel, why to use, and how to use it? You learn about the importance of a referral program and the importance of product integrations, and how to design an exciting referral program.

Onboarding was very interesting. This is generally ignored by many during the product growth, as we tend to focus more on acquiring more new customers via marketing to get them to reach the top of the funnel or downloading the app but forget the importance of a great onboarding experience. The teardown analysis of companies like Tinder, Trello, etc.. gave a lot of clarity on how they approached onboarding and what clicked for them. You will learn about how do you design impactful onboarding journeys.

Engagement & Retention is the key to the growth of any product and it’s very important to understand and measure the right way if the customer is actually engaged or has churned. Coming up with the right definition for an engaged customer or retained customer is very important to measure the adoption of the product. Once you are measuring it the right way only then you can improve the product.

You get what you measure and if you start measuring the wrong thing, you may actually get it

Every business in the end should make money. Is your product monetization ready is a big question? If yes, what pricing works and how do you experiment? The teardown analysis of some of the successful companies like Dunzo, Tinder etc…really helps in understanding this topic and design really good pricing or monetizing strategies for your own product.

Cohort: You are part of an amazing cohort, who are passionate and are equally enthusiastic in learning. The batch comprises product marketers, product managers, founders, designers, gamers etc…This is what makes the sessions exciting as you hear the right questions asked and get to hear the different perspectives.

Capstone Project:

For me, this was really the most exciting part of the whole bootcamp. Whatever, we had learned over the period of 5 weeks was put to test as we worked on a real company with a growth problem statement. We had to design the whole growth strategy for them.

As we were working on the case study, the team discussions were immense to understand and come out with an action plan for every element of Acquisition, Onboarding, Engagement & Retention, and Monetization. Productive discussions and great ideas started pouring out from each one of the team member. You actually learn a lot during this 3-week capstone project.

Finale!! — This is where the best teams presented their analysis and action plan on what they worked on over the last 3 weeks. Every team is a winner here as the kind of output and the kind of ideas that were shared were awesome. Fortunately, our team won this thanks to amazing teammates — Atharva, Prateek and Prasanna.

Recommendation

I recommend this course to anyone who is passionate is willing to learn how to grow the product by understanding all the facets of product growth. A Bootcamp worth it.
